English civil war – The Clash

English civil war (Guerra civile inglese) è la traccia numero due del secondo album dei The Clash, Give ‘Em Enough Rope pubblicato il 10 novembre del 1978. La canzone nasce come ispirazione dal brano, risalente al periodo della guerra civile americana, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, che fu scritta dall’americano unionista Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore, e che è a sua volta derivata dalla canzone irlandese contro la guerra Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye.
