Giorgio by Moroder – Daft Punk

When I was fifteen, sixteen, when I really started to play guitar, I definitely wanted to become a musician.
It was almost impossible, because it was, the dream was so big that I didn’t see any chance because I was living in a little town and, was studying.
And when I finally broke away from school and became musician, I thought: “Well, now, I may have a little bit of a chance”. Because all I really wanted to do is music, and not only play music but compose music.

Quando avevo quindici, sedici anni, quando ho veramente iniziato a suonare la chitarra, volevo diventare assolutamente un musicista.
Era quasi impossibile, perché era, il sogno era così grande che non vedevo alcuna possibilità perché vivevo in una piccola città e studiavo.
E quando finalmente lasciai la scuola e divenni un musicista, pensai: “Dunque, ora, potrei avere una piccola possibilità.” Perché tutto quello che volevo veramente era fare musica, e non solo suonarla ma anche comporla.

At that time, in Germany, in ’69, ’70, they had already discotheques. So I would take my car, would go to discotheque, sing maybe thirty minutes. I think I had about 7-8 songs.
I would partially sleep in the car because I didn’t want to drive home and that helped me for about… Almost two years to survive, in the beginning.

In quel periodo, in Germania, nel ’69, ’70, avevano già le discoteche. Quindi volevo prendere la macchina, andare in discoteca, cantare forse trenta minuti. Penso che avevo circa 7-8 canzoni. Dormivo in parte in macchina perché non volevo guidare fino a casa e ciò mi ha aiutato per… Quasi due anni per sopravvivere, all’inizio.

I wanted to do an album with the sound of the ’50s, the sound of the ’60s, of the ’70s, and then have a sound of the future. And I said: “Wait a second. I know the synthesizer. Why don’t I use the synthesizer which is the sound of the future.”
And I didn’t have any idea what to do but I knew I needed a click. So, we put a click on the 24-track which then was synced to the Moog modular. I knew that I could be a sound of the future but I didn’t realize how much the impact would be.

Volevo fare un album con il suono degli anni ’50, dei ’60, dei ’70, e poi hai il suono del futuro. E ho detto: “Aspetta un secondo. Conosco il sintetizzatore. Perché non uso il sintetizzatore che è il suono del futuro.”
E non avevo idea su cosa fare, ma sapevo che avevo bisogno di un clic. Quindi, abbiamo fatto un clic sulla 24esima traccia che è stata quindi sincronizzata con il Moog modulare. Sapevo che avrei potuto essere un suono del futuro, ma non mi rendevo conto di quanto sarebbe stato l’impatto.

Once you free your mind about a concept of harmony and of music being correct, you can do whatever you want. So, nobody told me what to do and there was no preconception of what to do.
